A native of Little Rock, Devean R. Owens completed her bachelors and masters degrees at Southern Methodist University. She holds a Ph.D. in Diversity and Equity in Education from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. As the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Program Manager at KJE Consulting & Coaching, Devean uses her expertise in race and gender issues to assist organizations and institutions along their DEI journey.
Her love and passion for Black women and girls began with her own upbringing in a strong, matriarchal family. This passion grew as she developed relationships with her sorority sisters and worked with Black girls in educational settings. These experiences influenced her dissertation research as well as the development of Dear Sista Friend.
Faith Miller is a proud Black girl, born and raised in Houston, Texas. Faith’s experience at Southern Methodist University sparked her passion and love for Black people, and encouraged her to be a voice for Black women. Though she studied Communication and Public Relations, Faith’s passion for education led her to The Ohio State University where she completed her Masters in Higher Education and Student Affairs.
In 2017, she moved back to Texas to be closer to family and has been working at The University of Texas ever since! Currently she supports low income, first-generation, pell eligible students in their journeys through college.
Faith’s life and success has been shaped by the many Black women who have nurtured and cared for her. These women are the voice and motivation behind Dear Sista Friend.
